hi all please could you help me please, my tortoise comes out about 10ish then she digges back down at about 12ish and thats all i see of her, shes eating okay and seems fine when she awake.
is this normal?:rolleye:
is this a new tortoise? mine usually wake when i put their lamp on if they're not already awake and mooch around as much as the sleep

outside tho i have noticed that often they graze around in the morning and hide away from the mid-day sun then come back out again tea-time ish but they are up loads more than 2 hours
i'm wondering if your tortoise is warm enough or too warm, what are your basking temps?
when you take the temp, rest the thermometer on the substrate (not slate or stone) directly under the beam of the lamp, it should be around 30-32
yeah we got her last friday, shes a spur thigh, the basking lamp is reading 40. the lamp is clamped on to the side of the tort table.
40 is high, can you try gettin down to 30-31
also, what lamp are you using
most keepers use a combined (uv plus heat)
its a combi Solar Glo bulb in a ZooMed Porcelain Clamp, ive changes were i clamp it on and lifted it a bit so the basking point is further away, its reading 35, but the lights been on since 730am its now 9am and shes still asleep. bug down.
do you think there is any thing to worry about?
as you've only had her for a week i'd tend to say she's just settlin into a new home, most likely sulking cos everything is different
i would tho definately try lowering the temps again
are you getting her up and bathing her? that might help
i really think shes just sulking, ive been bathing her every otherday, i woke her up this morning at 10, also im thinking of putting some flowers in with her and stones, ive just got loads off seeds that torts eat to start and grow.
thanks for all your help,
