Hi,
Recently i got a normal bulb of 40 watts and a normal lamp so that she could bask (i wanted a heat lamp and have heard that there is no point in getting expensive 'reptile basking lamps'. I already have a UVB lamp.). Anyway, when i picked her up for her bath, she was warm! Is this normal? She is more active which is great and she seems to always be hungry!! Smile

Thanks,
Betsy

Yes, this is the whole idea Betsy. They get the same effect from sitting in the sun too. Torts need to get up to 30 degrees to digest their food properly so in this country we have to help them along a bit.
The weather is also getting warmer so you will notice a big difference.
Oh great! Thank you! And the bulb is ok to use? I dont have to buy the reptile brandings?
Thanks
Betsy
You don't have to buy a reptile branded one. You can save loads of money this way- 'Basking' lights are often £10+ when the exact same bulb (without the picture of a lizard on the box) is about £1 each in a DIY shop!

The only time you need to buy a reptile branded ones is if it is a UVB bulb.
Hi Betzy. If you can't get the temps right try using a 60 watt bulb instead.
