Hi Lisa
I keep and breed horsfields too. Do you keep yours outdoors? They are not quite so greedy when given loads of space to run around in

That's brilliant, horsfields really come into theri own when outdoors.

Hello to everyone. Ive not long had my two boys one was a gift for xmas 2008 and i bought him a friend in feb 2009 i have not put them away for winter yet and not fully sure how to go about preparing them for it. One of the tortoises as visible growth on his shell but the otherone doesnt seem to of grown at all since i had him. They are both horsfields, where the one that hasnt really grown will eat weeds from the garden the other one refuses even to try a dandelion. Any one no what i am doing wrong with them. thank you

Hi Carol
A lot depends on how you are keeping them - horsfields tend to get stressed if kept indoors or without deep substrate. If they were wild caught they could well have a worm burden too which would stop them from putting much weight on. Try putting them outdoors with lots of distractions such as little hills, bushes etc for them to climb and hide in.
Have a look here for a few ideas

As far as them not eating weeds goes, if you keep giving them stuff they prefer, then they will continue to refuse correct diet. So long as you are bathing them and offereing drinking water they will give in eventually.
Hope this helps
