Hi there
As a kid I had an old outdoor tort with which I grew up with. Now Ive got kids and would love one for them to grow up with too.
Does anybody need to rehome one?
Thanks
Steve
Hi Steve,
Welcome to the site
It's not really that easy to re-home a tortoise at this time of year. Most people rehome in the spring when their tortoises wake up for hibernation. A lot more research has been done into looking after a tortoise since the 60's/70's (Most of the tortoises from this time are now dead.) so I would do a lot of research and prepare the enclosure ready for a tortoise that might become available.
Another option is to buy a hatchling from a breeder. There are a few breeders on our breeders list on themain site

You should try this link sometimes you can pick a Tortoise up on here with all the equipment but please make sure you read up on care for a tortoise first as they arent easy to look after and are a pet for life

Hi and welcome have a good look round the forum before you decide which breed of tortoise to go for as they all have specific care and housing needs. Lots of great people on here with years of experiances to share.

Be careful though as some of the torts offered there are from dealers, it being a dealers site

You need to know what species will suit your home too. Some hibernate, others do not, some need outdoor accomodation and room to dig, whereas others need to be kept warm year round. Have a look at websites that appear not to be linked to dealers and see what takes your fancy and you feel you could accomodate.
Hope this helps
Quote:i spoke with a few people off this site while hunting for a Tortoise and there is quite a few uk breeders on here advertising. This is the site where i found my breeder i would have said the worst place to look is trade it / friday ads
Oh yes, I quite agree that there are worse places but what I meant was that as the owner of that site is a dealer himself, he does not deny access to other dealers, as most genuine breeders sites do.
