hi guys. im new to this forum and also a new tortie owner. My daughter got one brought for her as a birthday gift. We dont know what species it is, how old it is or what sex it is. i have looked on the net for information but its bit vague for me. I thought i had a girl as tail is short but now read that if it has a concave undershell its a boy? Any advice gratefully received. thanks
Hi,

Welcome to tortoise world. If you post pictures of your tortoise's plastron, carapace & tail area we will be able to sex & identify the species.

Hi there
If it's not got certificates with it it's likely to be a russian or a leopard tortoise to be honest. The info you have seen re sexing tortoises only really applies to mature ones as all hatchlings look like females to begin with, also russin tortoises never get a concave plastron so this will not help either. As Josh says, if you could post pictures or describe it's colouring etc it would help to tell you what species it is.
Hope this helps
