Hi there, i recently bought an 18 month old Horsefield tortoise.Today i have noticed that on one of hers eyes there was what looked like abit of froth/bubbles....does anyone now if this could be a possible eye infection. I am very new to the reptile world an have today got Reptile insurance and registered with the local vet. She has her 1st appointment on Friday, but my daughter is already worrying.Sad
Well its good that your taking her to the vet.

In the mean time i would suggest (what i would do) getting a warm ear bud cotton stick and just trying to gently clean her eye or if you feel uneasy with that try to get her to soak it a bit when she has a bath.

If it gets any worse id try get a sooner appointment..
For now be sure that the tortoise's eyes are kept clean (I recommend using something like paper towels as the substrate, or boil-washed towels.) and then keep up the baths. I would also request a closer appointment if at all necessary... is your vet an experienced exotics vet?

If they've touched any animal and then forgot to wash their hands and rubbed or itched their eyes, there is a chance that he has got bacteria from the animal into the area. The doctor should have prescribed antibiotics right away. Hope everything goes

I don't agree with prescribing antibiotics until you have covered other options. Far too many problems are caused by over prescribing. If a tortoise seems otherwise well I would look at environmental factors before giving drugs. Just my humble opinion of course Wink

Hi i think its the tortoises eye not the daughters eye which is infected. Smile
While there are many different types of eye infections with different causes and treatments, the most common is bacterial conjunctivitis. Another well known infection is blepharitis – chronic inflammation of the eyelid due to infection.
