hi all

I want to know via this thread, on how tortoise keepers go about obtaining additional torts for collection.

ie this will save new or soon to be new tortoise keepers asking

''' I WANT TO RE-HOME A TORTOISE ETC ETC ETC '''

Your answers please.............
I would always advise to go through the TT myself, they have alot of tortoises that come up for re-homing, much more than smaller sites like tortoise-world.

i have also heard the RSPCA rehome as well

some of the information given out by the RSPCA is shocking, but i suppose if they are re-homing it's not such a problem.

I sometimnes get the odd tortoise coming in through my site, but nowhere near as many as the TT get. Tamie does a great job.

I would also advise you join the BCG, their re-homing co-ordinator, mary, is on our breeders list.

I would always advise that people get tortoises from breeders or re-homes. For a first tortoise, a smaller tortoise is often better as re-homers, alot of the time, come with problems.
i fully agree with you regarding Tamie

she does a wonderful job ( un-paid totally )

steve, why don't you buy/re-home a younger tortoise to live with freda, maybe a juvenile? I know you have been looking for a while, and they are very hard to find (like rocking poo!)
working towards that

after 2.1/2 years of looking i have widened my requirements

ie any age THB females rehomer or purchased

as i ( as you know ) cannot add a male to my garden untill there are a few girls to choose from as not stress one girl out with tooooo many advances

the dead troll
definately.

If you have a big enough garden it'd be possible to seperate but wouldnt be nice to see one tortoise in a pen whislt the female has the run of the garden I suppose.

The right tortoise will come along someday though, steve. I waited 2 years to find a female hermanns and she is the most beautiful tortoise, was well worht the wait (plus the 8 hour round trip!)
yep but who did the driving ???

and when will we see a piccy of her and the rest of the herd
LOL, My dad did the driving. I've got a picture of her in the outdoor enclosure in the enclosures section. I will post pics of them soon too!
