I did not know where to put this subject - I thought, well its health relate topic!!

I wonder how many of you insurance your tortoise??

I am thinking of insurance because of vet bills..

any recommendation of which insurance company??
I personally haven't got my tortoises insured but have a seperate bank account which I put £20 a month in. This way if I have to take them to the vets I pay with that money.

I think Exotic Direct insure torts but am not 100% sure!!
I wouldn't bother with insurance- I would put money away monthly so that it is not wasted. If your torts aren't sick then paying for insurance that you might never loose is a bit of a waste, when you can have your own 'insurance' by saving.
yeah that is right I would put money away monthly so that it is not wasted just like somehow...

Having been ripped off good and proper by Petplan many years ago, I decided never to go down that route again. I put as much money away each month as I would pay an insurance plan for one animal. It keeps both my dogs and 28 tortoises ticking over nicely and has even paid for a couple of holidays into the bargain. If you buy a sick tortoise or one that has been imported then you may be looking at vets bills in the future, unless you have had a couple of years trouble free, but if you have a UK hatched tortoise and have purchased it from a breeder then the chance of a vet being needed are minimal. With torts, it's mainly down to the owner to keep them health free as most tortoise problems are down to poor husbandry. If kept as naturally as possible and fed properly, then there's not a lot to go wrong. It's not as though they are likely to go running into the road and get mowed down by a dustbin cart or have the runs after raiding the fridge when owners are out etc. so not an awful lot to go wrong Wink
I don't have insurance. If one of my torts needs to go to the vets i find the money some how. Sue is right if you buy a tort from a breeder than the chances of needing a vet are minimal.
