[attachment=78]Glad to hear your answers re handling etc. A final word on what kind she is? We always thought Greek, but didn't know the details on the spur-thighed etc. When we first took her to the zoo, the head zookeeper couldn't believe how big she was. And we just thought she the size she was supposed to be! I do recall 11lbs at some point a few years ago.

As mentioned in my first post which I removed, I have to commend the zoo on accepting her a year ago the same day a year ago. She had a broken jaw (don't know how) and needed a lot of care which my older parents couldn't manage. The zoo took her the same day I called. So big thanks to them and for all of her care at their own expense (after the initial surgery which my parents paid for).

Parents had her almost 30 years (I was there for the first 9 or so). So very sad to have to give her up. But under the circumstances it was the only choice.

I picked her out when I was 11 or 12. I will never forget seeing all of these little tortoises in a cage all piled on top of each other. Very sad. I thought she had the prettiest shell, which she does! And as mentioned, named her Sally. I have attached some photos from 2001. Not sure if they will come through.
she's really nice bless.
she is lovely do you keep tortoises now?
No, she was the one and only! Didn't know any better when I was 12! Didn't think that she would outlive all of us! My mom and dad did a great job of continuing to take care of her after I left.

I have been living in the US for almost 20 years. Used to get to see her on my Summer visits (she used to hibernate for 6 months).

I know they miss her a lot. But have been up to see her at the Zoo. The hope is for her to go to the Tortoise Trust soon.
looks like a ibera ( zarudnyi ?) this form of iberas do get very large
A Testudo graeca ibera weighing 7 kg. was found in Bulgaria a couple of years ago.
Tortoises in Bulgaria seems to be more massive than elsewhwere on Balkan.
