you have a hermann right? they don't tend to bury/dig as deep as say a horsefield
my advise to you would be look under absolutely everything, pick up rocks, stones, blown into garden crisp packets even, it's possible he's gone to look for shelter somewhere as weather not too good today, look in amongst bushes/shrubs/plants
i lost one recently, she had dug herself a hide next to a big old tree root
chances are that your tort is probably right under your nose somewhere
please keep us updated
as for a trap, not sure really what about dotting about some cucumber or strawberries all over the garden and just wait? nice smelling goodies might tempt him/her
got my fingers crossed for you

any luck with finding?

They often dig or hide in corners or tight places. I would be willing to bet he is somewhere in your garden.Get on your hands and knees, and do a finger-tip search. Look for any disturbed plants and soil.
Hope you find him

I bet he has dug into the ground. I got my herman back a month ago after he escaped and was gone for 9months. then my other one disappeared and I couldn't see how he could have got out. i thought someone had stolen him or a bird had swooped off with him. my husband tapped into shell when digging in the ground (no harm done) he was a good 4-5inches under ground. good luck it's an emotional roller coaster
