Hi all
Ive had Shellby for 1 week, the pet shop I got her from supplied me with bark substrate. Ive decided Im really not happy with it and would prefer something else, I really dont fancy soil and sand and have been told about a reptile turf/carpet. Does anyone know of this?
I've heard bad things about this harbouring mould. Sand and Soil is the best option if you don't want to use bark. I've heard some bad reports about hemp, and unless you are very careful I wouldn't use it.
Oystershell may be suggested but I'm not too fond of it myself, I think it is an impaction hazard.

As a newbie I'm interested in this, as there's so m conflicting information about.Sand & Soil would this be at 50/50 ratio.
Would I be right in thinking the playsand would be safe?save for children and no chemicals like builders sand or red sand.
Soil what is the best type to use? Sterile top soil or peat based types.?
Sorry for so many questions from a newbie, but if I don't ask I don't learn.

I just dig ordinary topsoil up from the garden and mix it 70/30 (70% sand, 30% soil) for my enclosure.
Playsand is the best safe, builders sand is sharp, and the red stuff, well I've never used it so can't comment.
