Both my 3yr old hermans went into the fridge last night as per the last two winters. this morning one had passed a large amount of urine.
i have taken him out and put him back in the indoor enclosure
As it is so soon I am keen to give him another week and rehydrate then try again.
Does anyone else have experience with this situation. I don't really want to over winter him if I don't need to
Celia
Hi Celia welcome to tortoise world. I would do as you have said. With it happening with in 24 hours of putting him in the fridge you should be ok if you just rehydrate him. If it had happened later on in hibernation you would have had to keep him awake over winter. Rehydrate him and he should be fine. Just keep a check on him in the first few weeks of hibernation.
thanks for that. fingers crossed. the other one is fine ( who escaped last year and hibernated outside as we couldn't find him)
Makes you wonder how they manage to stay alive in the uk outside. They are stronger than we give them credit for. A few people on here have had the same thing happen to them. Months later they turn up right as rain. Doesn't stop you worrying all over the winter about them. Don't you just love them lol.
I agree I would try again as he hasn't been in the fridge long!

I agree, they are not in hibernation properly for a week or so.
