Well Sue, she doesn't look as bad as I thought she would, (if you know what I mean). But she is HUGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Cleo is a nice name I was driving home from school thinking about you wanting an egyptian name and a Cleo went pass (brain wave).
Wow Thursday in her prime.
I keep coming back. Can't believe how big she is for 5.
she was living on the loose in the house with a leopard tortoise and a dog during the day, her diet was dog biscuits (softened with water) bathed weekly, viv with uv strip and a heatmat during the night!
thank god there was no basking lamp or that would have been on at night too!
she had no access to grass or soil and was given nutrobal sometimes and not hibernated
i am so surprised that she is hard as a rock, i expected to pick her up and she'd be like jelly
i have a feeling she's not gonna be my friend for a long time while i change her husbandry and diet but hopefully she'll appreciate me in years to come :rolleye:
obviously everything she's been used to has to change but i'm not going to gradually change things i'll just bite the bullet and go for it?
she is on a table at the minute on soil (my father's gonna be happy when i tell him i need a bigger table)
i can't get over the size on her :rolleye:
20cms straight carapace length, my biggest adults are 18.5cms
wow!! 20cms long and she weighs 1kg 878gms
she is as strong as an ox :rolleye:
Bet she's had tobe, to get any food if she has been sharing with a dog! Thank God you found out about her when you did. That hole in her shell is strange.
what type is she? is she the same as Thursday as they look completely different
Yes she is the same tortoise. Thursday is old and as lost her markings.

God Sue. If you had told me the story about Cleo before i saw the pictures i would of expected much worse. The only good thing about her being fed dog biscuits is they are full of vitamins etc. Thats more than likely why her shells hard. You are right you have got to change everything. Remember me pulling my hair out over Terry(horsfield)rehomer. Hes such a different tortoise now it's unreal. He turned around faster than i thought he would. She will thank you for it in the end. I can't get over the size she is. Shes one big girl. If she doesn't eat for a bit it won't do her any harm for how heavy she is. With her only being five i wonder if she will carry on growing. Keep us post Sue to tell us how shes getting on.
Laura they are both hermann's but Thursday is very old and faded, she has lived through 2 world wars and has loads of stories to tell if she could, the damage on her is when she was run over by a lawn mower! she is bein given the best of everything, spoiled rotten :innocentwhistle: she is not used to other tortoises so i'm gonna see if her and Cleo will be companions, i hope so

i doubt she will grow any more well i hope not anyway :rolleye: i put a slateful of weeds in front of Cleo earlier but she didn't want to know, oh well i've got plenty patience and she'll give in before i will
i'll mix some lettuce in with the weeds later and maybe some cucumber juice just to entice her
it's quite frustrating as the weeds are so scarce at the moment :flamingmad: don't you just love being out for an hour hunting out weeds that shrivel up on the feeding slate :innocentwhistle:
Pmsl. I no that feeling Sue. She will come around. That will be nice for thursday so shes not on her own. How did Thursdays first hibernation go?.
